Everything You Need to Know About Chip Tuning

Chip tuning is one of the most popular performance modifications available today. Before we start explaining what kind of benefits you can expect, let’s go over some essentials. Every modern car has an ECU that controls a huge number of parameters keeping the car run smoothly and safely. It’s the ECUs job to limit the cars performance so the main parts would last longer. These parameters include boost, air-fuel ratio, top speed etc. With chip tuning, you are allowed to change these parameters to suit your needs.  There are several reasons why chip tuning is so popular nowadays, so we will go over a few.

Power increase

By altering or reprogramming some parameters in the cars ECU, you can increase the total horsepower and torque. Usually, you can gain about 30% power and torque, but it is possible to get even more. The power increase is gained by changing the fuel and air intake of the car and changing the stock limit. The 30% gain is considered the safest and it has the smallest effect on part durability.

Improving acceleration

When you get more power, accelerating is easier for the car. This can be a great thing especially if you’re often on the road. In some situations, just a few more horse power and torque could be the difference between overtaking with ease and overtaking while causing danger all around. It is really important to know your car and its overtaking possibilities. With more horse power and torque, overtaking will be easier and safer.

Better mileage

More and more people are looking for a way to get better gas mileage. This is obviously because gas isn’t getting any cheaper, and enthusiasts like going on long drives. Chip tuning is the most popular modification for getting more miles for the same amount of money. The principle is the same as with power increase. By changing the fuel and air intake, the cars speed is reduced so less fuel is used.  Chip tuning will only help if the driver changes his or her habits. Not revving the engine, less aggressive driving and keeping the car at constant speed can also help.

Fast and easy installation

There is a variety of chip tuning possibilities. Some require adding a physical chip that overrides the factory chip and some don’t. Newer cars are chip tuned just by connecting a computer to the ECU and just like checking for fault codes the parameters can be changed.  Although this can seem pretty easy, it is best to leave it to a professional. In a few hours time, you can feel the difference without changing any parts on your car. Cool, huh?

How to Reduce Lap Times

If you love to drive around the track, you are amongst a big number of people who have the same question in mind – how to reduce lap times?

There are a lot of ways to do this, from getting extra horse power, buying better race tires, driving more aggressively or lowering the center of gravity of your car. Every one of these things can reduce your lap times, but when you upgrade the suspension you get a lot more than you hoped for. The suspension is an underestimated part of a car, which most young drivers tend to forget when customizing their cars. If you want to upgrade your cars performance, every part is very important for the overall balance and best performance. When you tune your engine and get additional power to the wheels, there is a great possibility that your car will get unstable in the corners. To prevent that, it is very important to upgrade your suspension system so it can get all that power to the wheels, while keeping your car from sliding all over the track.

4 Ways to Make Your Car Feel like New

Every car enthusiast takes special care when it comes to their car, especially if it’s a daily driver. Every little imperfection is like a poke in the eye, and as time goes by, no matter how much you take care of your car, there will be things you could do to make the car feel like new. Some of the things from this list are cheap, some are not as much, but everything will make your car look and feel newer than it actually is.

Replacing floor mats

Floor mats are one of the first things you notice when you get in your car. When you have worn out floor mats they let the water and dirt from your shoes to get to the carpet. This wouldn’t be such a problem if you don’t have a carpet in your car, but most of us have it and it can make horrible smells from the moisture inside, especially if you live in a place where it rains a lot. Replace your old floor mats with new ones to get a fresh new look to your car, while keeping the carpet underneath clean and dry.

Replace wiper blades

Wiper blades are known for not lasting as long as you would like. There is nothing more irritating than the sound of a bad wiper blade rattling over your windshield while leaving trails of rain on it. It’s not only irritating, it is also dangerous. When you drive on the motorway while it’s raining, it’s very important to have 100% visibility. New wiper blades are not as visible as new floor mats but they make a difference.

Keep your car clean

Keeping your car as clean as possible is the number one thing you and it should be on the top of the list. Unwanted stuff all around the car will make you feel like you’re riding in a dumpster truck instead of your own car. Make it a habit to clean out your car of everything you don’t need every time you step outside. Also, vacuum the carpets, upholstery, wipe the dashboard, clean the vents. If there’s accumulated dirt and plain vacuuming doesn’t help, take your car for a deep clean. When you clean your car all around, it will look better and make you feel like its brand new.

Check for faulty parts and electronics

There is nothing worse than to hear rattling coming from the engine bay or your wheels. It’s not only annoying, it can be dangerous as well. Taking your car to the mechanic for a complete checkup once in a while will give you assurance that your car is ready for the road and in the best condition it can be. Regular services keep your car running but checking the suspension, tires and other parts of the car can save you money and make your car feel like new.

How to Detail Your Car DIY

Every car enthusiast is in love with their car but due to lack of time they can skip washing and cleaning it when it gets dirty. Having a garage to put your car in is a great thing, but not everyone has a garage for their car, so they need to take much more care of their car to keep it in the best condition possible. Snow, rain, wind and exposure to direct sunlight – all of these things can ruin your car. If you have a garage, use it. It will help on the long run by protecting your car from all kinds of weather elements. If you don’t, don’t worry, there are things you can do yourself to help save your cars paintjob and interior.

Start with the interior

It’s always best to start detailing with the interior of your car. This way, the dust and dirt doesn’t get in touch with your paintjob. If you’ve kept your car relatively clean in the past, this is a quick and painless job.  On the other hand if you’ve neglected the interior for some while, you should take a day or two to completely detail your car. Start the process with the dashboard and other plastic in your car. Using a dry cloth, just swipe away any dust that’s sitting on there and use cotton swabs for the air vents. After finishing the dashboard and other plastic in your car, start vacuuming the carpets. Remove your floor mats, wash them and let them dry naturally. Don’t forget to vacuum under the seats, but first, check for spare change or other stuff that can clog up the vacuum cleaner. You can also use products for leather and vinyl upholstery to get best results.

Wash your car from the top down

When you start cleaning the outside of your car, it is best to park it in a shady area so it wouldn’t get dry fast. Never use any household detergent for washing your car because it can wash off any wax you have on it and damage the clear coat of your car. Use a brush to clean your wheels because they can get really dirty in a short period of time. Make sure your wheels aren’t hot so you don’t hurt yourself. Scrub down any dirt from the wheels then wash them and dry them with a cloth. After a good and thorough wash of your car, you can protect the paint job and give it back a shiny finish. Make sure you’ve removed all the dust and dirt from it so you don’t damage the paintjob while waxing and polishing the car. There are products you can use at home for detailing, but you have to be very careful because you can damage the paint if you don’t have any experience with machine polishing.  If you’re not sure about waxing and polishing your car, it would be best to leave it to a professional.
